Decalcification Time
Most decalcification occurs in approximately 4-6 hours or less, depending on the thickness and density of specimens.
AVOID OVER-DECALCIFICATION
Check the specimens at regular intervals for end point. Time intervals are dependent on type of decalcifier being used.

Swirl & check regularly for endpoint.
Bone Marrow Biopsies From 15-30 minutes To 12-18 Hours
Small Cancellous Bone From 2-4 hours To 1- 2 Days
Femur Wedge From 3-5 hours To 1-3 Days
Mature Bone (1 cm) From 4-6 hours To 2-4 Days
Whole Femur or Teeth From Overnight To 5- 9 Days
